Pakistan’s engagement with the US aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties amid evolving global dynamics.
Strengthening US-Pakistan Relations
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, he emphasized that Pakistan values its relationship with the US and remains committed to advancing mutual interests.
His visit coincided with Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration, where he engaged with key members of the new administration’s foreign policy team and Congressional leaders. The discussions aimed to bolster diplomatic ties, improve economic collaboration, and address regional security concerns.
Controversy During the Visit
Naqvi faced criticism for attending an event hosted by the New Federal State of China, a US-based lobby advocating against China’s Communist Party, a major ally of Pakistan. However, he dismissed concerns, stating that his primary focus remained on strengthening Pakistan-US relations.
“You will see positive results very soon,” Naqvi assured reporters. “Some results are already visible, while others will follow shortly.”
PTI Protest and Security Concerns
Naqvi also addressed concerns regarding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned protest in Lahore on February 8, which coincides with the tri-nation ODI cricket series involving Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa. He urged PTI to reconsider, citing past incidents where demonstrations coincided with sensitive national events.
“If they don’t reconsider, then…,” he trailed off with a knowing smile, hinting at possible government action.

Political Tensions and US Perception
Political tensions remain high in Pakistan, especially after violent PTI protests in November led to multiple casualties, including security personnel. The government and opposition continue to trade accusations over responsibility for the deaths.
Meanwhile, a US business delegation led by Gentry Beach, a close associate of Donald Trump, visited Pakistan to explore investment opportunities. Beach praised Pakistan’s leadership, stating that the US administration respects the government and plans to invest billions of dollars in critical sectors such as minerals and real estate.
However, controversy arose when Richard Grenell, Trump’s special missions envoy, expressed support for PTI leader Imran Khan. Beach dismissed the comments, suggesting Grenell may have been misled by AI-generated deepfakes circulating online.
FIA Overhaul to Curb Human Smuggling
Naqvi also announced a massive revamp of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to tackle human smuggling and corruption. He revealed that most cases involve individuals from Faisalabad and Gujranwala, emphasizing the need for strict action against illegal migration networks.
“We want Pakistanis to go abroad through legal means, not in ways that damage our country’s reputation,” he stated.
Addressing bribery complaints at airports, Naqvi promised reforms in immigration procedures, ensuring smoother travel for legal passengers. “Just wait a little while. You will soon see a significant transformation in the FIA,” he assured.
Pakistan’s engagement with the US, along with planned reforms, signals a shift towards stronger diplomatic ties and improved governance. The coming months will reveal how these efforts translate into tangible results.
