Pakistan and Uzbekistan agreed to increase bilateral trade from $400 million to $2 billion. The commitment was made during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Uzbekistan. Both sides pledged to strengthen ties in investment, connectivity, and tourism.

Prime Minister Shehbaz and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held one-on-one and delegation-level talks. They discussed trade, economic cooperation, and regional stability. The leaders emphasized the importance of the Trans-Afghan Railway project. PM Shehbaz called it a game changer for regional connectivity.

PM Shehbaz praised Uzbekistan for its hospitality. He highlighted the historical bond between the two nations. He said relations were progressing rapidly due to mutual efforts. “Our countries share centuries-old ties, and our relations are strengthening in trade and investment,” he said.

Regional Stability and Afghanistan

Both leaders discussed the situation in Afghanistan. They agreed that a stable Afghanistan was crucial for regional peace. PM Shehbaz stressed that Afghan soil should not be used for militant activities against Pakistan or any other country.

Some Pakistani delegation members stayed in Tashkent for further discussions. More government officials from Islamabad would join them later. Talks focused on energy, mining, and railway projects.

PM Shehbaz invited President Mirziyoyev to visit Pakistan. The Uzbek leader accepted the invitation. He appreciated Pakistan as a trusted partner. He praised PM Shehbaz’s efforts for economic stability.

Strategic Council to Boost Cooperation Both sides agreed to establish a High-Level Strategic Council. Relevant ministries will report every two months on progress in cooperation. President Mirziyoyev called PM Shehbaz’s visit “historic” for bilateral relations.

MoUs Signed to Strengthen Ties

Pakistan and Uzbekistan signed multiple agreements. These covered defence, technology, training, and youth development. PM Shehbaz and President Mirziyoyev witnessed the signing ceremony.

Agreements on Visa-Free Travel and Security Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov exchanged agreements. These included visa-free travel for diplomatic passport holders, military intelligence cooperation, and training programs.

Scientific Research and Innovation

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Uzbek Deputy PM Khodjayev Jamshid signed an agreement on scientific research. They pledged to enhance cooperation in technology and innovation.

Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar signed a news cooperation agreement. He also signed an MoU on youth affairs with Uzbek officials. Lahore and Tashkent agreed to collaborate on city-level initiatives.

PM Shehbaz and President Mirziyoyev signed a joint declaration. They also finalized protocols for the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

Pakistani and Uzbek FM Hold Talks

Ishaq Dar met Uzbek FM Bakhtiyor Saidov. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations. Both reaffirmed their commitment to economic and trade collaboration.

PM Shehbaz visited the Uzbek Independence Monument in Tashkent. PM laid a floral wreath and praised Uzbekistan’s progress. He noted the shared vision of both nations for peace and prosperity. He also received a briefing on Uzbekistan’s 3,000-year-old history and national heroes.
