Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay, who recently hosted an iftar event in Chennai, is facing legal trouble. A complaint was filed against him at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s office, accusing him of insulting Muslims during the gathering. The event, organized by his political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) at Royapettah YMCA Grounds, has sparked controversy within sections of the Muslim community.

Allegations Against Vijay

The Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath, represented by its treasurer Syed Kous, lodged the complaint. Kous alleged that the iftar event was not conducted respectfully. He claimed that individuals with no connection to fasting or Ramadan attended, which he believes disrespected the religious significance of the occasion.

Additionally, he criticized the security arrangements, alleging that foreign guards mistreated attendees, treating them “like cows.” Kous also claimed that Vijay did not acknowledge or apologize for the situation.

“Legal action should be taken against Vijay to prevent such incidents in the future,” he told the media. However, he denied that the complaint was filed for publicity.

Vijay’s Iftar Participation

Despite the controversy, Vijay’s participation in the event was seen by many as a gesture of goodwill. Reports suggest that the actor, known for his strong fan base and rising political ambitions, observed fasting for a full day before breaking his fast with thousands of attendees.

He was spotted wearing a Kufi cap and took part in prayers before the meal. While Vijay himself has not commented on the matter, sources close to him indicate that the event was meant to promote unity and inclusivity.

Political Implications

With Thalapathy Vijay’s entry into politics on the horizon, such controversies may shape his public image. Hosting an iftar event could have been a strategic move to connect with different communities ahead of his political journey. However, the backlash from some Muslim groups highlights the challenges he may face as he transitions from cinema to politics.

The complaint raises questions about religious sensitivity, event organization, and public perception. Whether legal action will be taken remains unclear, but the incident has certainly sparked debate in Tamil Nadu’s political and social circles.

What’s Next for Vijay?

As he prepares for his final film “Jana Nayagan” before fully entering politics, Vijay must navigate such controversies carefully. His party, TVK, will likely need to address concerns raised by the Tamil Nadu Sunnat Jamath to prevent further tensions.

This incident underscores the delicate balance between political outreach and religious sentiments, something Vijay and his team will need to consider moving forward
