NUSHKI: A powerful blast near a passenger bus on the Nushki-Dalbandin highway killed at least seven people and injured 35 others on Sunday. The incident adds to the wave of violence gripping Balochistan.
Authorities have not confirmed the nature or cause of the explosion. Police said the injured were rushed to Nushki Hospital, where several remain in critical condition.
Emergency Declared
The hospital administration declared an emergency at Mir Gul Khan Naseer Teaching Hospital. Security forces sealed the area and launched an investigation.
Police stated that helicopters were transferring the severely injured to Quetta for advanced medical care.
Government’s Response
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack and called it an act of extreme brutality. He extended condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to establishing peace in the province. Bugti vowed to take strict action against those responsible.
Terrorist Attacks Surge
This incident follows a major terrorist attack in the Mushqaf area of Bolan district. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been the hardest hit by terrorism, accounting for 96% of such incidents in Pakistan this year, according to the Global Terrorism Index 2025.

BLA Attack on Jaffar Express
On Tuesday, militants from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) blew up a railway track and attacked the Jaffar Express, which was carrying over 440 passengers. The terrorists took passengers hostage, triggering a military operation.
Security forces launched a clearance operation, eliminating 33 attackers and rescuing the hostages. However, 26 passengers, including 18 security personnel, three railway officials, and five civilians, were killed. Three FC personnel were also martyred in a prior attack on a security picket.
Social Media Propaganda
Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry highlighted the spread of misinformation. He accused Indian media of using fake videos to exaggerate the situation. He also identified New Delhi as the primary sponsor of the attack.
Government’s Support for Victims
In response to the tragedy, the government announced a compensation package for the victims’ families. Each family will receive Rs5.2 million and jobs in the Ministry of Railways.
The surge in terrorist attacks continues to pose a serious challenge to security forces and the government. Authorities have vowed to intensify counterterrorism operations and ensure peace in the troubled province.
