A Karachi court has denied bail to journalist Farhan Mallick, who was arrested under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) for allegedly spreading anti-state content. The Judicial Magistrate (East) heard Mallick’s petition on Friday and ruled against granting him bail.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took Mallick into custody on March 20, accusing him of disseminating fake news and inciting public unrest through his YouTube channel.

Court Sends Mallick to Jail on Judicial Remand
Following his arrest, Mallick was initially placed under FIA’s physical remand. However, on March 25, the court denied an extension in remand and sent him to judicial custody instead.
A day before the bail hearing, Mallick’s YouTube channel administration claimed that FIA agents raided his office, confiscating his computer and USB drive. They labeled the raid an attack on press freedom rather than a standard investigation.
