Scent-tech is the latest innovation Infinix is bringing to the smartphone world, and it’s turning heads. The company has announced that its upcoming Note 50s 5G+ will come with a unique ability — it can smell good. Yes, really. Infinix is launching the phone in India on April 18, and it will include a feature that releases a refreshing fragrance from the rear panel.

A Phone That Smells as Good as It Looks

Infinix’s new “Energizing Scent-Tech” is not just for show. It uses microencapsulation technology to trap fragrance molecules inside tiny capsules. These are then embedded into the phone’s faux leather back, specifically in the Marine Drift Blue color variant.

Over time, the capsules release a subtle scent, designed to be refreshing and light.

Designed for the Senses

This innovation aims to appeal not just to the sense of sight and touch but also smell — something few, if any, smartphones have attempted. Anish Kapoor, CEO of Infinix India, highlighted the inspiration behind the feature. “We try to innovate. One such innovation is this Energizing Scent-Tech. It’s like you have a good-looking phone, and it smells good as well. All of us want to smell good, so why not have something in your hand that smells good too?”

The scent is built into the phone’s material, not sprayed or added on afterward. This ensures it gradually emits fragrance without affecting the device’s performance or design.

Exclusive to One Variant

While the Note 50s 5G+ will be available in three color options, the scent-infused material will be exclusive to the Marine Drift Blue variant. This helps Infinix test the market’s reaction to the feature without applying it across the board.

The use of synthetic leather also helps retain and slowly release the fragrance, allowing users to enjoy the scent without it becoming overwhelming. It’s a creative fusion of tech and lifestyle — something that aligns with the brand’s attempt to stand out in a competitive market.

Affordable Innovation

Despite this unusual feature, the Note 50s 5G+ is expected to be affordable. The company has hinted at a price tag of under INR 20,000. This positions it firmly in the budget 5G smartphone segment, adding an unexpected layer of premium feel through its scented back.

While some might call it a gimmick, Infinix insists there’s real technology behind the idea. The microencapsulation process is widely used in cosmetics and textiles, but this is among the first times it’s being integrated into a consumer electronic device.

The Infinix Note 50s 5G+ might just open the door to multi-sensory tech in mobile phones — not only do they look smart, perform well, and feel sleek, but now, they might smell good too.
