Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has arrived in Belarus for a two-day official visit aimed at expanding bilateral relations between Pakistan and the Eastern European nation. Welcomed in Minsk by Belarusian Prime Minister Alexander Turchin and Pakistani embassy officials, Shehbaz is accompanied by a high-level delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
Talks with Belarusian Leadership
During the visit, scheduled for April 10–11, Prime Minister Shehbaz is holding talks with President Aleksandr Lukashenko to review progress in areas of shared interest. According to the Foreign Office, these discussions build upon recent high-level engagements, including the 8th Session of the Joint Ministerial Commission held in February and a visit by a mixed ministerial delegation earlier in April.
Strengthening Strategic Agreements
The visit is set to produce several new agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) across multiple sectors. The cornerstone of the diplomatic engagement is the three-year “Roadmap for Comprehensive Cooperation” for 2025–2027, signed in November 2024. This wide-ranging agreement serves as a strategic guide to boost economic collaboration and institutional partnerships.

In addition to the roadmap, both countries signed 15 MoUs during the visit. These agreements cover a wide array of sectors, including:
-
E-commerce
-
Science and technology
-
Health services
-
Halal trade
-
Accreditation and auditing
-
Vocational and technical education
Focus on Security, Transport, and Environment
The discussions also addressed critical global concerns. Pakistan and Belarus agreed to enhance cooperation in intelligence sharing, particularly in combating money laundering and terrorism financing. They also signed pacts on customs statistics, international road transport, and disaster management coordination.
Climate change and environmental protection were also on the agenda. Both countries signed agreements to work together on sustainability issues, aligning with broader global climate goals. Additionally, an extradition treaty was finalized to reinforce legal cooperation and cross-border law enforcement.
A Promising Future for Pakistan-Belarus Ties
In a joint communiqué, the two governments highlighted the importance of the newly signed agreements. The document described the pacts as vital steps that “open new prospects for the continued development of bilateral relations based on the principles of mutually beneficial friendship.”
This visit not only underscores the strong diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Belarus but also lays the foundation for deeper strategic, economic, and technological cooperation. With both sides showing commitment to sustained engagement, this partnership is expected to grow in significance in the years ahead.
