In a positive Zardari health update, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Senator Saleem Mandviwalla confirmed on Friday that President Asif Ali Zardari has tested negative for Covid-19. The development signals steady improvement in the president’s condition after a brief period of isolation and treatment in Karachi.

Recovery Underway

President Zardari had tested positive for coronavirus last week, prompting doctors to place him in isolation. However, recent reports from his medical team suggest his health is on the mend. Mandviwalla told reporters, “His rapid [antigen] test is negative,” and noted that his overall condition is improving daily.

Dr. Asim Hussain, the president’s personal physician and close associate, had previously stated that Zardari was “medically fit” and would be discharged soon. This latest update reinforces that assurance.

Ongoing Medical Attention

Zardari, now 69, has dealt with several health issues in recent years. Despite these challenges, he continues to manage his responsibilities. His recent bout with Covid-19 marks the second time he has tested positive for the virus, the first being in July 2022, which resulted in only mild symptoms.

Throughout his recovery, Zardari remained under close observation at a Karachi medical facility. According to those close to the situation, he received all necessary care and responded well to treatment.

Previous Health Incidents

President Zardari’s medical history has included a range of health concerns. In October 2024, he fractured his foot while stepping off an aircraft. Doctors placed his foot in a cast after a thorough check-up. Earlier, in March 2023, he underwent successful eye surgery in the United Arab Emirates.

In 2022, he was admitted to Dr. Ziauddin Hospital in Karachi for a chest infection. At the time, speculation about his health was widespread, but Dr. Hussain dismissed the rumors and confirmed Zardari was in good condition.

Going further back, in 2021, Zardari was admitted to a private hospital in Karachi due to fatigue brought on by frequent travel.

Stable but Cautious

Given his age and history of recurring medical issues, Zardari’s health has remained a subject of public interest. The presidency has continued to release official updates, reassuring the nation about his stability.

Party leaders have urged the public to avoid speculation and rely on official health bulletins. The PPP has emphasized that the president is receiving the best possible care and will return to his official duties once fully recovered.

With the latest Covid test showing a negative result and signs of physical recovery, President Zardari appears to be on a steady path back to full health. His team remains optimistic about a complete recovery in the near future.
