Traders across Pakistan have called for a shutter-down strike on April 26 to express solidarity with the people of Palestine. The strike, supported by major trader associations and political groups, aims to protest Israel’s continued military operations in Gaza and highlight the humanitarian crisis.

Widespread Support in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

Mushtaq Ahmed Khalil, Senior Vice President of the Jamiat Business Forum, confirmed that the strike will be observed across the entire Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, including the capital city of Peshawar. He stated that all major trader unions are on board and preparations are in full swing to ensure complete market closures.

Khalil announced that a key meeting will be held in Peshawar on April 24 to finalize arrangements. Coordination is ongoing with trade leaders, who have assured full cooperation for a peaceful protest.

Promotion Through Digital Platforms

Organizers are actively leveraging social media to promote the strike and encourage public participation. Online campaigns also emphasize the boycott of Israeli products as part of the broader solidarity movement.

Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nationwide Call

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a nationwide strike for the same date — April 26 — intensifying the movement.

Rehman strongly condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza, calling it a genocide.

Addressing thousands of protestors, he urged Pakistanis to stand united for the cause of Palestine and to use peaceful resistance, such as economic boycotts and strikes, to send a strong message.

Economic Action for Humanitarian Purpose

Traders and political groups believe that a united economic shutdown can raise global awareness and pressure international powers to take action against the violence in Gaza.

The call for a shutter-down strike has received increasing public backing, with many viewing it as a critical step in showing unity and compassion toward Palestinians during one of the region’s darkest times.

Building Momentum Nationwide

With less than a week to go, momentum for the strike continues to build. Market leaders are finalizing logistics, volunteers are mobilizing across cities, and social platforms are buzzing with solidarity messages.
