In a move to enhance Pakistan-UAE cooperation, the two countries signed multiple memoranda of understanding (MoUs) on April 21, marking a significant step toward strengthening bilateral relations. The agreements cover cultural collaboration, consular affairs, and business engagement, reflecting a growing partnership between the two nations.

High-Level Diplomatic Meeting

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Islamabad. The leaders held wide-ranging talks focused on expanding diplomatic, economic, and people-to-people ties.

During the official meeting, both ministers signed MoUs aimed at deepening cooperation and creating new channels for bilateral collaboration. These include agreements on cultural exchange, the creation of a joint committee for consular matters, and the establishment of a UAE-Pakistan Joint Business Council.

Strengthening Cultural and Consular Ties

The MoUs on cultural cooperation and consular affairs are set to increase interaction between citizens of both countries. These agreements aim to facilitate easier communication and services for the large Pakistani diaspora living in the UAE. With hundreds of thousands of Pakistanis residing and working in the Emirates, smoother consular services are expected to benefit many families.

Dar emphasized that these agreements would further connect the two societies. “We share a deep-rooted cultural affinity, and these steps will only strengthen that bond,” he stated.

Business Council to Promote Investment

The third MoU, signed between the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, formally established the UAE-Pakistan Joint Business Council. This body will aim to increase trade and investment opportunities, offering a structured platform for dialogue between the business communities of both countries.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah noted that the economic relationship is growing at a “good pace” and said the new council would help accelerate this trend. “We look forward to further cooperation in trade, investment, and aviation,” he said at a joint press conference.

A Relationship on the Rise

Sheikh Abdullah’s visit came as part of a two-day official trip to Pakistan. During the joint briefing, he highlighted that relations between the UAE and Pakistan have gained momentum over the past two years. He expressed optimism that this progress would continue across various sectors.

Dar echoed this sentiment, describing the UAE as a longstanding partner with “age-old fraternal relations” and shared values. He also expressed his appreciation for Sheikh Abdullah’s visit, though he wished it could have lasted longer.

The Foreign Office underscored that the visit and signed MoUs represent an important milestone in further cementing ties. Officials hope these developments will lead to even broader collaboration across strategic sectors in the coming months.

This renewed cooperation sets the stage for deepened engagement between Pakistan and the UAE, ensuring mutual benefits for governments, businesses, and citizens alike.
