Amid rising tensions with India following the recent Pahalgam attack, Pakistan has instructed oil firms to stockpile high-speed diesel and jet fuel. The move aims to ensure uninterrupted fuel supplies in case of further escalation, according to sources from oil marketing companies.

Emergency Fuel Strategy Activated

Shortly after the Pahalgam incident, the Directorate General of Oil issued directives to Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and other petroleum importers. The orders focused on expediting fuel imports and boosting reserves, especially for high-speed diesel and aviation-grade jet fuel.

Officials from the petroleum division confirmed that current fuel inventories remain stable. However, under emergency preparedness protocols, the government is proactively securing additional reserves to prevent disruptions during a potential conflict or blockade.

India-Pakistan Hostilities Escalate

Tensions have escalated sharply since the April 22 attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which India blamed on Pakistan without presenting concrete evidence. In response, India has taken a series of aggressive measures.

These include the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the downgrading of diplomatic relations, and an order for Pakistani nationals to leave India. The closure of the Attari-Wagah border has also halted trade and civilian movement.

Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) responded strongly. It warned that any Indian attempt to disrupt Pakistan’s water supply would be treated as an act of war. The NSC also approved reciprocal actions, including the shutdown of the Wagah border crossing.

Fuel Supplies Crucial in Crisis Planning

As part of national security planning, ensuring the availability of diesel and jet fuel is seen as critical. High-speed diesel powers military transport and logistics, while jet fuel is essential for air force operations. The precautionary buildup aims to maintain readiness in case of prolonged hostility.

Industry insiders noted that refineries have begun increasing their production and import schedules. PSO and private oil firms are also coordinating with ports and logistics providers to speed up fuel delivery to strategic reserves across the country.

A Cautious but Firm Approach

While diplomatic efforts remain uncertain, Pakistan is taking visible steps to prepare for any scenario. With regional stability hanging in the balance, ensuring energy security is emerging as a top national priority. The government’s message is clear: readiness comes first in times of rising conflict.
