A heartbreaking incident unfolded near Jamshoro on Monday as two young men, identified as Mudasar and Ali Haider, lost their lives in a Jamshoro canal drowning. The victims, along with two others, had entered the canal to cool off in the scorching heat. While two were rescued in time, Mudasar and Ali tragically drowned.

Youth Went for a Swim to Escape the Heat

The group of four friends had gone to bathe in the canal, a common practice during ongoing heatwave conditions. However, what began as a way to find relief from the high temperatures turned fatal for two of them. The two surviving friends were rescued in a swift emergency operation.

Rescue Teams Arrive Swiftly

Upon receiving information, Hyderabad Rescue teams reached the site and conducted a prompt rescue effort. They successfully pulled out the two remaining youths, who were battling strong water currents. Unfortunately, the other two could not be saved. Their bodies were later retrieved and shifted to Civil Hospital for legal formalities.

Canal Incidents Rise During Heatwaves

As temperatures soar during the summer months, canals across Sindh become popular spots for local residents seeking relief. However, these unguarded water bodies often pose serious risks, especially for young swimmers unfamiliar with their depths or currents.

Every year, such drowning incidents rise sharply during heatwaves. Despite repeated warnings, many youths continue to take the risk, unaware of the life-threatening dangers involved.

Authorities Urged to Enforce Preventive Measures

To prevent further tragedies, district administrations often invoke Section 144, banning swimming or bathing in canals. Local authorities are once again being urged to strictly implement such regulations, raise awareness, and install warning signs at vulnerable spots.

Families are also being advised to discourage unsupervised swimming during extreme weather, as the heat pushes more youngsters toward unsafe water bodies.
