The US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Israel has agreed to a proposed 60-day ceasefire deal in Gaza. Speaking through his political team and social media channels, Trump emphasized that the plan is now in Hamas’s hands.

“This is Israel’s final offer,” he said. “Hamas needs to act now or face more destruction.” Trump described the deal as a critical humanitarian pause, which would also include a hostage-prisoner swap and allow much-needed aid to enter Gaza.

Sources close to the negotiations claim that Qatar and Egypt have presented the proposal to Hamas leadership in Doha, though no official response has yet been given. Trump’s team, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary Marco Rubio, reportedly met with Israeli officials to finalize the draft before making it public.

So far, Israel has not officially confirmed the ceasefire, but senior government insiders suggest that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the temporary truce—provided that Hamas agrees to certain conditions, including a phased release of Israeli hostages.

Deal Tied to Hostage Release and Aid Access

The proposed ceasefire outlines a clear timeline: a 60-day halt in hostilities, the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and increased humanitarian access into Gaza. Trump claimed the plan would allow food, water, and medical supplies to reach civilians while efforts continue to reach a longer-term peace.

The attack began in October 2023, has already killed over 56,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health officials. Israeli airstrikes have damaged hospitals, water supplies, and power infrastructure, plunging the population into a severe humanitarian crisis.

Under the current deal, Hamas would release Israeli hostages in groups, beginning with women and children, in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israel. However, Hamas has repeatedly demanded a permanent ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal—terms Israel refuses.

International observers, including the United Nations and the Red Cross, have warned that time is running out. Gaza’s remaining hospitals face equipment shortages and fuel crises. “A ceasefire is not optional—it’s a lifeline,” a Red Crescent spokesperson said.

Ceasefire Pressure Builds Ahead of Netanyahu-Trump Summit

The announcement comes just days before Netanyahu is scheduled to visit Trump in Washington for a private summit. Analysts say Trump’s announcement may be a strategic move to frame himself as a peace negotiator ahead of the 2026 presidential campaign.

On the Israeli side, officials evacuated parts of Gaza City on Monday, suggesting preparations for further strikes if the deal collapses. Trump warned Hamas that rejecting this ceasefire could trigger a “massive Israeli response.”

Iran’s recent moves—especially after suspected Israeli sabotage at its Fordow nuclear site—have added tension to the region. Tehran has threatened retaliation, complicating any peace efforts between Israel and Hamas.

With the clock ticking and global pressure mounting, the ceasefire proposal sits in a fragile state. Trump has urged Hamas to respond immediately. “This is your chance to save lives,” he said, calling the deal a “historic opportunity.”
