In a major judicial reshuffle, President Asif Ali Zardari has officially approved the Chief Justice appointments for all four provincial high courts. The Ministry of Law and Justice issued notifications on Monday confirming these permanent postings.

Who Got Appointed Where?

Justice Sarfraz Dogar has been appointed Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Justice Junaid Ghaffar will now head the Sindh High Court, while Justice Rozi Khan Bareech takes over as Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court.

Controversy Over Dogar’s Appointment

Justice Dogar’s appointment comes after months of legal disputes. Earlier this year, five IHC judges filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging his appointment as acting Chief Justice, as well as the transfer of three judges to the IHC.

However, the Supreme Court dismissed the petitions on June 19, allowing Justice Dogar to continue serving. Shortly after, the Ministry of Law issued a revised seniority list, declaring Dogar as the senior-most judge of the IHC.

Legal Challenge Still Pending

They argue that the ruling goes against principles of fairness and seniority. Their appeal also seeks interim relief while the case is under review.

This judicial development signals a crucial moment for Pakistan’s judiciary, as it deals with internal disputes while formalizing top judicial appointments across the provinces.
