Pakistan, China Reaffirm Military Cooperation Amid Shifting Regional Dynamics

In a significant meeting underscoring regional security dynamics, top defense officials from Pakistan and China held high-level talks in Islamabad on Tuesday. The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Wang Gang, Chief of Staff of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF), met with Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu to discuss strategic cooperation and airpower synergy.

Strengthening Strategic Ties

Air Chief Marshal Sidhu welcomed the Chinese delegation and highlighted the longstanding partnership between the two nations. He emphasized that Pakistan and China share deep-rooted ties based on mutual trust and a joint vision for regional peace and stability.

Both sides discussed growing defense collaboration, particularly in the realm of airpower. They explored avenues to deepen cooperation in training, joint exercises, operational planning, and technological innovation.

Focus on Modern Air Warfare

The PLAAF delegation received a detailed briefing on the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) evolving force structure and operational doctrine. Air Chief Sidhu outlined the PAF’s recent advancements, including its shift toward Multi-Domain Operations (MDOs) — an approach that integrates land, air, space, and cyber capabilities.

Lieutenant General Wang praised the operational readiness of the PAF and lauded its modern capabilities. He expressed interest in learning from PAF’s expertise in MDOs, calling it a vital aspect of 21st-century warfare.

Tribute to PAF’s Combat Performance

General Wang also commended the PAF’s leadership and precision during the recent conflict with India. He called Pakistan’s response “measured, disciplined, and courageous,” and a model for modern air defense under high-stakes pressure. He credited the PAF’s performance to its leadership and robust training doctrine.

Shared Vision for Peace and Innovation

The visit concluded with mutual reaffirmation of the two countries’ commitment to strengthening military cooperation. The discussions highlighted a shared desire to innovate and collaborate more deeply in defense strategy and technology, particularly as both countries navigate complex regional challenges.

The meeting marked another step in fortifying Pakistan-China defense ties amid evolving geopolitical realities in South Asia.
