Hamas Signals Ceasefire Willingness with Prisoner Offer Amid Conflict

In a significant move towards a potential Gaza ceasefire, Hamas announced its readiness to release 10 Israeli prisoners, even as indirect negotiations continue through Qatari mediation. The group described the talks as difficult, blaming Israel’s intransigence, but confirmed it was working seriously to resolve key issues.

Ceasefire Talks Face Key Obstacles

Hamas outlined major hurdles, including the flow of humanitarian aid, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and credible guarantees for a lasting truce. The group reaffirmed its stance, saying, “Gaza will not surrender,” and emphasized the need to ensure Palestinian rights to freedom, safety, and dignity.

A Palestinian official close to the Doha talks said Israel’s delegation was “mostly listening,” suggesting a lack of genuine intent to strike a deal. Another source accused Israel of deliberately obstructing progress by restricting the free entry of aid into Gaza.

Netanyahu and Trump Express Optimism

Despite Hamas’s concerns, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu echoed US President Donald Trump’s hopeful stance. Speaking to Fox Business Network, Netanyahu stated, “There’s a good chance that we’ll have [a deal].” His comments followed high-level meetings with US officials in Washington.

Trump’s administration has been actively promoting the ceasefire plan, pushing both parties toward an agreement in the coming days.

US Sanctions UN Expert

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced sanctions against UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese. Rubio accused her of promoting International Criminal Court (ICC) action against US and Israeli officials and companies, calling her actions “biased” and “malicious.”

Albanese recently released a report accusing firms of profiting from what she termed Israeli occupation and apartheid in Palestinian territories. Rubio further alleged she supported terrorism and displayed antisemitism.

Rising Civilian Toll in Gaza

As talks continue, violence persists. Gaza’s civil defence agency reported that 26 people, including six children, were killed in recent Israeli strikes. Witnesses described the aftermath as chaotic and devastating, with bodies scattered and families digging through rubble in search of loved ones.
