LONDON – Altaf Hussain, the founder and leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), has been hospitalised in North London after suffering multiple health complications, including stress on his heart.

According to MQM officials, Hussain was rushed to the hospital on Thursday after his condition worsened. Senior MQM leader Mustafa Azizabadi confirmed to Geo News that doctors decided to admit Hussain for further evaluation and treatment.

“He was feeling unwell and underwent several tests,” Azizabadi said. “Doctors admitted him after reviewing his reports.”

Tests Conducted, Blood Transfusion Given

Deputy Convener of MQM’s Central Coordination Committee, Qasim Ali Raza, provided more details on Hussain’s condition on Friday. He said doctors carried out various diagnostic procedures including blood tests, an ECG, CT scan, X-ray, and an ultrasound.

“Mr Altaf Hussain has been under severe emotional stress for a long time,” Raza said. “Doctors also recommended a blood transfusion, which has now been done.”

Raza did not share specific details about Hussain’s diagnosis but confirmed that his condition was stable. He added that medical staff are closely monitoring him and further treatment will depend on the outcome of the tests.

Diabetic Condition and Old Injury Aggravate Health

Sources close to the party revealed that Hussain, who suffers from diabetes, was also struggling with a foot injury that refused to heal. That lingering issue, combined with mounting stress and fatigue, triggered the recent health emergency.

“He was already managing a lot, but when the heart stress began, his team didn’t take any risks,” a source said. “They rushed him to the hospital. He is currently stable and responding to treatment.”

Hussain’s health has been a concern before. In February 2021, he was admitted to the intensive care unit after contracting COVID-19. He tested positive twice in that same year but recovered both times.

MQM officials in London are urging supporters to remain calm and pray for Hussain’s recovery. They expect doctors to release more updates over the weekend depending on his progress.
