A Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court on Tuesday rejected bail pleas filed by PTI leader Omar Ayub Khan in protest-related cases, ordering his immediate arrest and production in court. The cases stem from violent demonstrations that occurred in Rawalpindi and Attock on November 24 and 26 last year.
Bail Rejected, Arrest Ordered
Judge Amjad Ali Shah issued the ruling after repeated absences by Ayub and his legal counsel. The court noted that their failure to attend multiple hearings had stalled judicial proceedings. As a result, it ordered law enforcement to arrest the opposition leader and ensure his appearance at the next session.
Violent Protests Under Scrutiny
The charges against Ayub are tied to a series of violent protests that erupted in parts of Punjab following political tensions. FIRs were registered in both Rawalpindi and Attock, naming several PTI leaders and workers as accused parties. Ayub, who currently serves as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Secretary General and parliamentary leader, is among the most senior figures implicated.

Repeated Absences Frustrate Court
The court emphasized that the accused’s consistent absence, along with his legal team’s failure to justify it, had obstructed the legal process. Authorities had issued multiple summonses in earlier hearings, but neither Ayub nor his lawyer complied.
Next Steps in Legal Process
The judge directed that Omar Ayub be taken into custody and brought before the court during the upcoming proceedings. Law enforcement agencies are now tasked with executing the arrest warrant and ensuring Ayub’s compliance with court orders.
This development marks another legal blow to the embattled PTI leadership, many of whom face mounting legal challenges in the aftermath of protests and political unrest throughout the past year. The cases are expected to remain in focus as the judiciary continues its examination of political demonstrations and related violence.
