At least 11 Palestinians were killed in fresh Israeli attacks across Gaza on Monday, sparking renewed global concern over violations of international law amid deepening domestic turmoil for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Strikes Across Gaza Intensify

Al Jazeera reported heavy air raids, drone strikes, and artillery shelling in areas like Shujayea, Jabalia, and the Shati refugee camp. Five members of the same family died in Shati. Hospitals reported dozens of injuries.

Israeli forces ordered evacuations from eastern Gaza City, pushing residents westward—yet even these zones came under fire. Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary noted widespread food shortages as displaced families face constant threats and no safe shelter.

Israeli Casualties Add Political Strain

The Israeli military confirmed three soldiers were killed in northern Gaza, adding pressure on Netanyahu, who insists on pursuing “absolute victory.” Families of soldiers and hostages now call for a ceasefire to prevent further bloodshed.

Netanyahu’s coalition faces mounting cracks. Far-right allies have warned of withdrawing support if a ceasefire is signed. Separately, an ultra-Orthodox party resigned on Monday over Israel’s military draft law, demanding urgent reforms within 48 hours. The attorney general criticized the government’s weak enforcement of draft penalties.

Global Summit in Bogotá Responds to Gaza Crisis

Amid these developments, over 30 nations convened in Bogotá, Colombia, for a summit addressing the Gaza conflict and Israeli occupation of the West Bank. Co-chaired by Colombia and South Africa, and organized by The Hague Group, the summit aims to pursue diplomatic and legal solutions.

UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, who is attending the summit, declared on X: “Alongside states committed to ending the massacre in Gaza… bringing politics back within the limits of international law.”

Legal Reckoning for Israel

Since October 2023, Israel’s assault on Gaza has killed nearly 58,400 Palestinians, mostly women and children. The campaign has devastated Gaza’s infrastructure, worsened hunger, and caused disease outbreaks.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
