In a major step towards digitising immigration, the UK government has introduced a new eVisa system for Pakistani students and workers. Starting July 15, most Pakistani applicants traveling on study or work visas will no longer need a physical sticker in their passports, according to a statement from the British High Commission in Islamabad.
What Is an eVisa?
The eVisa is a secure, digital record of a person’s immigration permission in the UK. It includes details of visa conditions and can be accessed through an online UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account. Applicants will now be able to manage and prove their immigration status entirely online.
Simplified and Secure Process
The British High Commission described the shift as a move toward a more secure, streamlined, and user-friendly visa process. The system allows individuals to retain their passports while applying, saving time and eliminating the need for physical documentation.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott called the change “simpler and faster,” particularly for students and workers who can now verify their visa status digitally.
Who Qualifies for an eVisa?
The eVisa system currently applies to main applicants in several categories, including:
Student visas (including short-term study up to 11 months)
Skilled Worker route, including Health and Care professionals
Global Talent visa
Temporary Work routes (e.g., Creative Worker, Charity Worker)
Global Business Mobility (e.g., Senior or Specialist Worker, UK Expansion Worker)
International Sportsperson
Youth Mobility Scheme
What Stays the Same?
Dependants and those applying for non-study or non-work visas, like general visitor visas, will still receive physical sticker visas. Applicants who already have valid visa stickers do not need to take any action.
Future Expansion Expected
The UK plans to extend the eVisa system to all visa categories over time, creating a fully digital immigration process. Officials say the goal is to provide a more secure, efficient, and accessible system for all visa holders entering the UK.
