In a fresh petrol price hike, the federal government has raised fuel prices for the third consecutive fortnight, dealing another blow to consumers already battling inflation. Starting July 16, petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) will cost more, with the Finance Division confirming the revised rates based on Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) recommendations.

New Rates Effective July 16

Petrol will now be sold at Rs272.15 per litre — an increase of Rs5.36. Diesel has seen a sharper jump, going up by Rs11.37 to Rs284.35 per litre. This continues a trend of fortnightly hikes that began last month.

Product Price from July 1 Price from July 16 Increase
Petrol (MS) Rs266.79 Rs272.15 Rs5.36
High-Speed Diesel Rs272.98 Rs284.35 Rs11.37

Impact on Daily Life

Petrol is commonly used in motorcycles, small cars, and rickshaws — vehicles that are vital for everyday commuting among lower and middle-income groups. Diesel, on the other hand, fuels much of Pakistan’s transportation and agriculture sectors.

The diesel price surge is likely to push up transportation costs and food prices. Trucks, buses, trains, and even farm machinery like tractors and tube wells rely heavily on diesel. With each price increase, inflationary pressure spreads across the economy, affecting the cost of vegetables, grains, and other essentials.

Previous Increases

This move follows earlier hikes of Rs8.36 for petrol and Rs10.39 for diesel in the last pricing cycle. The adjustments were attributed to volatility in international oil markets and currency fluctuations.

Government Statement

The Finance Division said the adjustments reflect global market trends and were made in consultation with relevant authorities. However, no subsidy or relief measures were announced alongside the hike, leaving the burden on consumers.
