Islamabad continues to battle intense monsoon showers, prompting urgent directives from city officials. Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, ordered all field teams to stay on high alert amid persistent rain and flood threats. The measures come as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts more heavy rain in the coming days, heightening concerns over weather conditions.
Randhawa issued clear instructions to the CDA, Emergency and Disaster Management, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), and district administration teams, stressing their continuous presence in the field. “All teams must remain in the field and provide every possible assistance to citizens,” he stated in a press briefing Thursday. He emphasized that maintaining smooth traffic flow across the city must remain a top priority.
The CDA Chairman also personally visited various sectors to supervise the situation. “Necessary measures must be taken so that citizens do not face any inconvenience during the rains,” he said, adding that uninterrupted movement on Islamabad’s key roads is essential for daily life and emergency response.
PMD Forecast Prompts City-Wide Drainage and Monitoring Plan
As Islamabad weather patterns grow more unpredictable due to climate change, the CDA chief instructed the sanitation and environment departments to deploy all available personnel and equipment near key drainage points. With nullahs prone to overflowing during monsoon downpours, teams were ordered to continuously monitor stormwater drains to prevent flooding.
“All water channels must remain clear at all times, and any obstruction must be removed immediately,” Randhawa directed. He particularly emphasized drainage at underpasses, often vulnerable to water accumulation during monsoon rains.
“Uninterrupted drainage at all key points, especially underpasses and low-lying zones, is essential. There must be no standing water anywhere in the city,” he added. His proactive monitoring reflects increasing urban preparedness in the face of extreme Islamabad weather events.
Low-lying areas across the city have received special attention. Teams have been instructed to maintain a round-the-clock watch in sectors prone to waterlogging. The Capital Development Authority has mobilized its heavy machinery and placed pumps in vulnerable locations to ensure swift drainage when needed.
Public Helplines Activated, Citizens Urged to Cooperate
In a bid to enhance community engagement during this weather Islamabad emergency, Randhawa reminded citizens to report any emergencies or complaints without hesitation. He highlighted that CDA’s 16 helpline and district administration’s 1334 number are open round the clock for public assistance.

“Citizens must cooperate with the authorities and report any issue they face due to rain or flooding. All complaints must be addressed immediately, with no delay,” Randhawa asserted. The Chief Commissioner stressed the importance of swift response times and accountability from all field officers and departments.
Reiterating his instructions, Randhawa warned against negligence. “There should be no excuse. All officers must remain in the field to ensure an effective monitoring system is in place,” he said. Field teams have already been stationed across Islamabad to oversee drainage operations, assist citizens in distress, and clear roads blocked by water or debris.
According to the PMD, heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next several days, increasing the risk of urban flooding. The department has issued weather alerts and urged municipal bodies to stay prepared for emergency response.
As Islamabad braces for more monsoon rains, the coordinated effort of CDA, MCI, and district authorities reflects a growing emphasis on climate-responsive urban management. With the PMD’s warnings in effect and the city’s drainage systems under strain, residents are advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain in contact with local authorities for safety updates.
