ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the people of Kashmir, emphasizing that a peaceful and just resolution of the longstanding dispute, in line with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, is vital for peace and stability in South Asia.

In a message on the occasion of Kashmir Accession Day, the prime minister paid tribute to the unflinching sacrifices of the Kashmiri people and affirmed that Pakistan would continue to provide diplomatic, political, and moral support to their cause.

“Kashmir Accession Day is a reminder of the historical resolution passed on July 19, 1947, during a session of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference in Srinagar, which declared the people’s decision to accede to Pakistan,” the prime minister stated. “That commitment made by the people of Kashmir endures even today, despite decades of Indian oppression.”

Kashmir Accession Day Symbolizes Historic Commitment

Every year on July 19, Kashmir Accession Day is observed to commemorate the moment when representatives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir declared their intention to join Pakistan. This day holds significant historical and emotional value for Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the importance of the resolution, saying it reflected the will of the Kashmiri people and their belief in a shared future with Pakistan. “The voices of Kashmiris cannot be silenced by occupation or force. Their commitment to freedom is deeply rooted in history,” he said.

The prime minister emphasized that the people of Kashmir, now in their third generation since 1947, have not given up their struggle. “From the first martyr to the youth of today, every Kashmiri has carried forward the spirit of resistance,” he added.

Pakistan has long maintained that the final status of Jammu and Kashmir should be determined in accordance with the aspirations of its people and the framework provided by UN resolutions. However, India continues to reject international mediation, insisting on a bilateral solution while tightening its grip on the disputed region.

Decades of Struggle Amid Oppression

Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned India’s continued military presence in Kashmir, noting that nearly one million Indian troops are deployed in the region. He said this massive deployment has only added to the suffering of the Kashmiri people, with daily reports of human rights violations, arbitrary detentions, and curfews.

“The Indian forces have failed to crush the spirit of the Kashmiri people despite decades of brutal tactics,” the prime minister asserted. “Instead of weakening, their passion for freedom has only grown stronger.”

He urged the international community to play a more proactive role in holding India accountable for its actions in Kashmir. “Silence is complicity,” he said. “Global powers must recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Kashmiris and press for the implementation of UNSC resolutions.”

The prime minister also praised the resilience of the Kashmiri population, who have withstood economic hardship, surveillance, and systematic attempts to alter the region’s demographic makeup. “These actions not only violate international law but also threaten the fragile peace in the region,” he warned.

Pakistan’s Commitment to the Kashmiri Cause

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that Pakistan’s support for Kashmir would remain steadfast. “Our commitment is not symbolic. It is a strategic, moral, and humanitarian duty,” he stated.

He said Pakistan would continue to raise the issue of Kashmir at all international forums and would not allow the cause to fade from global consciousness. “This is not a territorial issue; it is about human dignity, freedom, and justice,” he added.

As the region observes another Kashmir Accession Day, the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with their Kashmiri brethren, hoping that one day, justice will prevail, and the dream of self-determination will become a reality.
