A deadly bus accident in Pakistan turned tragic on Sunday, leaving 11 people dead and over 30 injured in two separate incidents on major highways in Chakwal and Jamshoro. The victims included children, and several injured remain in critical condition. These back-to-back tragedies highlight ongoing safety issues on Pakistan’s road networks.
Bus Plunges Into Ravine on M-2 Motorway
The first accident occurred near Dhok Sial on the M-2 Motorway in Chakwal. A passenger bus traveling from Islamabad to Lahore veered off the road and plunged into a ravine. Rescue officials confirmed that nine passengers died on the spot while 18 others sustained injuries.
Rescue 1122 reported that the bus was carrying more than 40 passengers at the time of the crash. The injured were immediately shifted to Trauma Center Kallar Kahar and District Headquarters Hospital. Emergency teams worked quickly to recover victims from the wreckage.
Among the deceased were three children aged eight months, one year, and two years. The oldest victim was 45 years old. The ages of the injured ranged from 14 to 55, according to the casualty list released by rescue services.
Police and Rescue Teams Respond Swiftly
District Police Officer Ahmed Mohiuddin took notice of the accident and sent a team of senior officers to the site. A police spokesperson said the area had been secured and that legal procedures were now underway.
Chakwal Rescue and Safety Officer Shaukat Ali praised the fast and professional response of emergency teams. “Our rescue teams provided immediate medical help and quickly transported the injured and deceased to hospitals,” he said.

He also advised travelers and transporters to perform thorough vehicle checks before beginning any long journey. “Tyres, brakes, and steering systems must be inspected properly. These steps can prevent such tragic accidents,” he added.
Second Crash in Jamshoro Claims Two Lives
Just hours after the Chakwal crash, another tragic accident occurred near Nooriabad in Jamshoro district. A passenger coach traveling from Karachi to Larkana collided with a truck.
The impact killed two people on the spot—the truck driver and the bus helper. At least 10 others were injured, with several reported in critical condition. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Local authorities reached the scene shortly after the crash. The damaged vehicles were removed to clear the road for traffic. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
Alarming Rise in Road Fatalities
Fatal road accidents continue to claim lives across Pakistan. Reckless driving, speeding, and poor enforcement of traffic rules remain key contributors. The country’s major highways, especially the M-2 Motorway, have seen repeated tragedies in recent months.
Earlier this month, on July 13, six people were killed and 27 injured when a bus overturned near the Chakri Interchange on the M-2. That crash, too, raised concerns over bus safety and driver fatigue.
Experts say proper vehicle maintenance, driver training, and stricter law enforcement are essential to reduce such incidents. Poorly maintained public transport and a lack of accountability often put hundreds of lives at risk every day.
Public Outcry and Safety Demands Grow
The latest crashes have sparked fresh outrage among the public and road safety advocates. Many are calling for nationwide inspections of commercial transport fleets and better monitoring of long-distance buses.
Several citizens have taken to social media to demand accountability from transport companies and government authorities. Hashtags related to the accidents began trending, with users urging authorities to impose stricter penalties for safety violations.
Families of the victims are also demanding justice and compensation. As investigations continue, pressure is mounting on both federal and provincial governments to take concrete steps to prevent further loss of life.
Time for Action, Not Sympathy
While condolences pour in for the victims, critics argue that sympathy is not enough. Only strict enforcement of traffic laws and mandatory safety checks can stop these recurring tragedies.
The recent bus accident in Pakistan serves as another painful reminder of the dangers lurking on the nation’s highways. Without immediate and decisive action, such accidents will continue to steal lives and devastate families
