The legendary Ozzy Osbourne farewell turned into an emotional and electric spectacle in Birmingham. Thousands of fans filled the streets to say goodbye to the heavy metal icon, creating a moment that was loud, loving, and unforgettable. With chants, tears, and a marching brass band, the city honored its most famous son in true rock ‘n’ roll fashion.

Sharon and Family Lead the Farewell

Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, arrived visibly emotional, flanked by their children Jack and Kelly. As the hearse made its way through central Birmingham, Sharon stepped forward to place a pink rose among dozens of fan tributes. Jack and Kelly supported her physically and emotionally. Their quiet gestures mirrored the deep love and sorrow shared by fans around the world.

Also present were Aimee, Louis (Ozzy’s son from his first marriage), Kelly’s fiancé and Slipknot DJ Sid Wilson, and Ozzy’s grandchildren. The entire family stood united, viewing the tributes and greeting the crowd with quiet dignity. Sharon raised her arms in thanks, flashing the peace sign before returning to the car.

Rock Anthem Send-Off

The funeral procession felt more like a grand rock event than a somber farewell. A brass band led the hearse, playing iconic Black Sabbath songs as it passed fans dressed in Ozzy and Sabbath shirts. The hearse itself was topped with a cross-shaped floral display in purple, and inside, flowers spelled out “Ozzy” beside the coffin.

Spontaneous chants of “Ozzy! Ozzy! Ozzy!” erupted. Fans tossed flowers, sang songs, and cheered as the procession moved past landmarks from Ozzy’s life—his childhood home, the Villa Park stadium, and finally, Black Sabbath Bridge.

Black Sabbath Bridge Becomes a Shrine

The procession stopped briefly at Black Sabbath Bridge, which had transformed into a shrine. Fans had left a mix of tributes—flowers, hand-written notes, empty beer bottles, candles, and even a bat-shaped balloon. The balloon was a playful nod to the infamous 1982 concert when Ozzy bit the head off a bat on stage—a moment that cemented his wild legacy.

The bridge also features a bench with images of Black Sabbath members. On this day, it served as a focus of grief, love, and celebration. Kelly, Jack, Sharon, and the rest of the family spent a few moments at the site, surrounded by color and emotion.

One Last Journey Through Home

This public procession came a week after Ozzy’s death at age 76 and followed his final concert, a farewell performance for 40,000 fans at Villa Park. On Wednesday, his final journey retraced key steps of his life—from the football stadium to his childhood neighborhood, and into the city center.

The private funeral is expected to take place on Thursday, but for the fans, Wednesday’s tribute felt like the true send-off.

Fans Reflect on a Legend

The crowd was full of stories, memories, and deep admiration. Pete Coles from Nuneaton said the atmosphere was a mix of sadness and celebration. “Just to be here is a pleasure,” he said. “It’s all about respect for Ozzy.”

Eddie Hayes, a 19-year-old who traveled from Newcastle, described the rocker as one of a kind. “No one like him. No one ever will be,” he said. “I drove three or four hours, but it was worth it just to be here.”

Another fan, Will Brain from Worcester, summed it up as “poetic.” He added, “It shows how many lives he touched. Seeing Sharon that emotional was hard to watch—it really hit.”

A Thunder That Will Echo On

Ozzy’s influence on rock music and pop culture will never fade. As the crowd’s chants faded and the hearse rolled on, one thing was clear: Ozzy Osbourne wasn’t just a musician. He was a symbol, a voice, a rebel—and to many, family.

His final ride through Birmingham may have marked the end of his journey, but the sound of that day—raw, wild, and full of love—will echo far beyond.
