K-P Cabinet Approves Rs20b Flood Relief Package

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has approved a massive flood relief package worth Rs20 billion to support victims, rebuild infrastructure, and accelerate rehabilitation in disaster-hit areas. Chairing the 37th cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur pledged swift compensation, housing for displaced families, and transparent use of funds to ensure that “no victim will be left behind.”

Prayers and Briefing on Flood Losses

The meeting began with prayers for the martyrs of the devastating floods. Officials then presented a detailed report on human and material losses. They confirmed that the first phase of rescue operations had been completed, though the search for missing persons was still ongoing.

Praise for Rescue Efforts

Chief Minister Gandapur lauded the bravery and dedication of the district administration, Rescue 1122, and other departments. He noted that their timely response saved countless lives. He promised affected families that financial compensation was already being distributed and that the government would stand firmly by them until complete recovery.

Health and Epidemic Prevention

The chief minister directed immediate restoration of health facilities in disaster-hit districts. He ordered the supply of essential medicines, establishment of mobile hospitals, and adoption of preventive measures against possible epidemics. To safeguard livelihoods, he also instructed veterinary teams to provide treatment and fodder for livestock.

Restoring Basic Infrastructure

The cabinet placed strong emphasis on restoring vital infrastructure. Gandapur ordered the urgent repair of water supply schemes, tube wells, and damaged road networks to reconnect isolated communities. These steps, he stressed, would not only improve daily life but also enable faster delivery of relief to affected populations.

Long-Term Rehabilitation Plans

Looking beyond immediate relief, Gandapur announced that data collection on property losses was underway. This would allow the government to provide new homes for families who lost shelter, alongside compensation for destroyed businesses and livestock. He also revealed the establishment of a special donation account to allow the public to contribute, assuring that all contributions would be managed with full transparency.

He further disclosed that in addition to the Rs3 billion already allocated, the government had released another Rs2 billion to speed up relief and rehabilitation measures.

Updates on Rescue and Connectivity

Additional Chief Secretary Home and Tribal Affairs, Abid Majid, briefed the cabinet on rescue operations and ongoing assistance. He shared district-wise data from Bajaur, Dir, Buner, Batagram, Mansehra, Swabi, Shangla, and Abbottabad. The information covered casualties, missing persons, damaged houses, crops, and cattle.

Majid also reported that 65 percent of cellular services had been restored in flood-hit areas, with full connectivity expected soon. He assured the cabinet that communication networks would be fully operational to aid relief efforts.

Approval of Rs20 Billion Relief Package

To meet urgent needs, the cabinet approved a supplementary grant of Rs20 billion. This funding will cover near-completion projects and reallocation of intra-sectoral resources for efficient financial management.

The cabinet also approved financial assistance of Rs2 million for the families of each deceased victim and Rs0.5 million for each injured individual. Additionally, Rs1 billion was released to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for launching a “Food Stamp” program. Under this program, every affected family will receive Rs15,000 in immediate support.

Additional Approvals and Support Packages

The meeting approved Rs180 million for the families of K-P Police Shuhada and injured personnel. It also sanctioned a compensation package for the families of five martyred helicopter crew members who lost their lives during rescue missions.

In another move, Rs62.3 million was allocated for organizing Seerat Conferences across the province during Rabiul Awal. The cabinet also approved the transfer of land for a Rescue 1122 station in Bajaur to strengthen emergency response capacity.

Furthermore, the cabinet sanctioned Rs1.38 billion for the construction of the Kumbar Bypass Road in Lower Dir, a project aimed at improving regional connectivity. In a humanitarian gesture, Rs20 million was approved for medical assistance to former MPA Shaukat Yousafzai.

A Commitment to Swift and Transparent Relief

Chief Minister Gandapur reiterated that the government’s top priority is to provide swift and transparent relief to every affected family. He emphasized that no victim will be left behind, and rehabilitation efforts will continue until normal life is fully restored in the flood-hit areas.
