On the 60th Defence and Martyrs’ Day, Pakistan’s top leadership paid heartfelt tribute to the martyrs, ghazis, and resilient citizens whose sacrifices safeguarded the country’s sovereignty. The solemn day, coinciding with Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH), was marked with ceremonies, speeches, and renewed pledges to protect the nation’s independence.
Salute to the Nation’s Heroes
The day began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital, symbolizing honor for the defenders of Pakistan. Ceremonies across the country echoed the nation’s resolve.
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu led the military’s homage.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a powerful statement, calling September 6 a day that reflected “unflinching resolve and unshakeable spirit.” It reminded the nation that in 1965, Pakistan’s soldiers, backed by their people, stood firm against a far stronger enemy, leaving a lasting mark of courage on history.
Legacy of Courage
ISPR emphasized that the sacrifices of 1965 continue to inspire new generations. It assured the nation that the armed forces remain committed to defending the country against every threat. The military also pledged full support for flood victims across Pakistan and vowed a “decisive response” to any attempt to disturb peace.
A symbolic guard-changing ceremony was held at the Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi. A contingent from the Pakistan Air Force Academy Asghar Khan took charge. Air Vice Marshal Shahryar Khan, the chief guest, recalled “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” as a reminder of the resilience displayed on September 6. With confidence, he declared that “next time the score won’t stop at 6-0, it will be 60-0.”

President Zardari’s Message
President Asif Ali Zardari called September 6 a “glorious chapter” in Pakistan’s history. He honored the bravery of soldiers and citizens who defended the nation’s borders with unmatched courage.
Referring to the recent Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, he said that just as in 1965, Pakistan’s forces once again demonstrated extraordinary valor this year. He praised their professionalism, readiness, and multi-domain capabilities, describing the nation’s defense as impregnable.
The president stressed the need to modernize defence systems to counter hybrid warfare, disinformation, and psychological tactics. He urged the youth and all state institutions to remain vigilant and united.
Zardari also reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir and Palestine. He called Kashmir the root cause of regional instability and condemned Israeli actions in Gaza as genocide. He demanded a fair resolution for Kashmir and recognition of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
“Let us remain steadfast and united,” he said, “so that the sacrifices of our martyrs are honored, and Pakistan passes on strength and peace to future generations.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz’s Tribute
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid glowing tribute, calling September 6 a “symbol of courage, unity, and resilience.” He recalled how in 1965 the armed forces, backed by the people, repelled aggression and safeguarded independence.
Highlighting Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, he praised the Army, Navy, and Air Force for their unmatched professionalism under the leadership of COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir. He assured the nation that the sacrifices of martyrs would continue to inspire generations.
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peace but cautioned against ignoring Indian provocations and shifting regional dynamics. He stressed strengthening defence to counter terrorism and proxy warfare.
Shehbaz also expressed solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and condemned Israeli aggression in Gaza. He urged humanitarian support for the besieged population.
Call for Unity and Stability
The prime minister highlighted the link between strong defence and economic stability. He urged the nation to rise above political divides and focus on prosperity and self-reliance. “On this Defence and Martyrs’ Day,” he said, “let us renew our pledge to faith, unity, and discipline as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam.”
He ended his message with a rallying cry: “Pakistan Armed Forces Zindabad, Pakistan Paindabad.”
Renewed Resolve
The 60th Defence and Martyrs’ Day not only honored the sacrifices of 1965 but also reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness against modern threats. Through speeches, ceremonies, and messages of solidarity, leaders and citizens alike showed that the legacy of courage remains alive.
The day reminded the nation that unity, sacrifice, and resilience form the foundation of Pakistan’s strength—and that future generations must carry this spirit forward.
