DNA Evidence Ties Suspect to Charlie Kirk Assassination

FBI Links Tyler Robinson to Murder Weapon

Federal investigators say DNA evidence directly connects 22-year-old Tyler Robinson to the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News on Monday that investigators matched Robinson’s DNA to a towel wrapped around the rifle used in the fatal shooting. They also recovered his DNA from a screwdriver found on the rooftop where the shot was fired on 10 September.

Authorities in Utah are preparing to file capital murder charges as early as Tuesday. Patel said the FBI built its case quickly using forensic evidence, digital records, and a recovered note allegedly written by Robinson before the attack.

Kirk Killed During Campus Event

Kirk, founder of the Arizona-based group Turning Point USA, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old activist had gained national prominence by bringing conservative evangelical Christians into politics and forging a close alliance with former President Donald Trump.

Witnesses described chaos in the auditorium as a single gunshot rang out. Security rushed Kirk off stage, but he died shortly after. The killing shocked students and staff and reignited fears about political violence in the United States.

Investigators Detail Suspect’s Motive

Officials say Robinson harbored a growing hatred for Kirk and had immersed himself in online “dark corners” of extremist content. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said Sunday that Robinson’s friends and family noticed his radicalization in recent years.

Patel told Fox News the suspect left a note saying he “had an opportunity to take out Kirk” and planned to do it. Although Robinson allegedly destroyed the note after writing it, FBI specialists recovered its contents. Authorities have not yet released the full text.

Robinson has not cooperated with law enforcement since his arrest, Patel said. Investigators are examining his digital footprint to understand how online networks may have influenced him.

Arrest in Southern Utah

Police captured Robinson late Thursday near his hometown of St. George in the state’s southwestern corner. He grew up between Las Vegas and Utah’s Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks.

Authorities said ammunition found in the rifle bore anti-fascist slogans and meme-culture engravings, including one bullet casing marked, “Hey, fascist! Catch!” Court documents show prosecutors plan to use the markings to argue premeditation and ideological motivation.

It remains unclear whether Robinson has retained an attorney to represent him.

Vigils and Tributes Across the Nation

News of the Charlie Kirk assassination has prompted tributes and public mourning nationwide. Mourners held candles and sang during a memorial vigil at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Centre in Washington on Sunday. Moments of silence took place at several professional sporting events over the weekend.

Vice President JD Vance, a close friend of Kirk, announced he would serve as guest host for Kirk’s talk show on the Rumble streaming platform. “Please join me as I pay tribute to my friend,” Vance wrote on social media.

Political Violence Concerns Grow

The killing has reignited debate over the rise of politically motivated attacks. Experts warn that online radicalization and the normalization of violent rhetoric may fuel further incidents. Law enforcement agencies are reviewing security protocols for high-profile public events, especially on college campuses.

Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant but stressed that the investigation is progressing rapidly. Patel said the FBI will continue to release details as charges are filed.
