Mom Arrested After Instagram Video Shows Alleged Torture of 7-Year-Old Son

Ohio police arrested Tiarika Baymon, 32, after an Instagram video allegedly showed her binding and torturing her 7-year-old son. Authorities issued an Amber Alert on Sunday, September 14, after the FBI warned local police that the child was in possible danger.
Brunswick Police said the alert was cancelled once officers rescued the child from Baymon’s car near Ross Township, Pennsylvania. Deputy Chief Brian Kohlhepp told reporters that investigators believed the boy was “in life-threatening danger” based on the video evidence.
Instagram Video Shows Abuse
According to police statements cited by WECT, WKYC and WTAE, the FBI provided footage showing Baymon allegedly tying up and assaulting the boy. Kohlhepp said the Instagram video formed part of the urgent evidence used to locate her.
Investigators tracked Baymon to Ross Township where she had stopped to rest in a vehicle. Officers found her asleep in the driver’s seat with a gun allegedly resting in her lap. The 7-year-old sat in the backseat appearing visibly distressed.
“They had to reach in and forcibly remove her from the car,” Kohlhepp said. “She didn’t suffer any injuries as a part of that, and the gun actually fell out onto the ground during that exchange.”

Child Found With Severe Injuries
Police said the boy had traumatic injuries consistent with prolonged abuse. Marks on his wrists suggested he had been restrained with belts or exercise straps. Court records cited by WTAE and WKYC indicate the child possibly suffered broken bones.

Upon rescue, the boy allegedly told investigators that Tiarika Baymon hit him in the face with a glass bottle. He also described being tied up and struck repeatedly. Authorities immediately transported him to a medical facility for treatment.
Suspect’s Behavior During Arrest
Officers described Baymon as “paranoid” and said she spoke about “demons” during her arrest, according to WKYC. Police removed the gun from her vehicle without incident, but she allegedly resisted officers before being taken into custody.
She faces multiple charges including child endangerment, resisting arrest, providing false identification to law enforcement and obstructing an officer. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
Plea and attorney information for Baymon were not immediately available. She remains in custody while prosecutors review the evidence.
Community Reaction and Hotline Reminder
The case shocked residents of both Brunswick, Ohio, and Ross Township, Pennsylvania. Authorities credited the FBI’s quick alert with preventing further harm. “Without the tip and the video evidence, this could have ended far worse,” one investigator told local media.
Child-safety advocates urged the public to remain vigilant about online content. “If you see disturbing images involving a child, report them immediately to authorities,” said a spokesperson for a regional child-protection agency.
The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-4-A-Child (1-800-422-4453) offers 24/7 confidential support in more than 170 languages for anyone suspecting child abuse.
Tiarika Baymon is expected to appear before a Pennsylvania magistrate later this week before possible extradition to Ohio. Investigators from multiple jurisdictions, including the FBI, continue to collect evidence from her social media accounts.
Meanwhile, doctors are assessing the boy’s injuries and his long-term needs. Officials say child-protection services have taken emergency custody of him.
Police emphasized that social media posts can provide critical leads in child-endangerment cases. “This arrest shows how quickly we can act when evidence surfaces online,” Kohlhepp said.
