Political chaos has engulfed Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana’s Your Party, turning what was once promoted as a bold left-wing project into a public spectacle of infighting and betrayal. The Your Party turmoil exploded this week as accusations of sexism, right-wing sabotage, and internal plotting turned allies into rivals and exposed deep fractures within the fledgling movement.
A Party Built on Old Alliances
Your Party emerged as a coalition of hard-left politicians who once thrived during Corbyn’s Labour leadership. Corbyn, Zarah Sultana, and members of the so-called Independent Alliance—mockingly referred to by critics as “Independent Gaza”—attempted to revive their political momentum by forming a new home for frustrated leftists. Supporters, eager to recapture the excitement of Labour’s Corbyn era, rushed to sign up when Sultana invited the public to join for £5 a month or £55 a year. Reports claimed that around 22,000 people quickly set up direct debits to become members.
Yet beneath the upbeat launch lay bitter disputes and hidden power struggles. What began as a fresh start for disenchanted socialists quickly unraveled into accusations and counterclaims.
The Membership Meltdown
The first sign of trouble appeared when the link Sultana shared for new memberships did not match Your Party’s official website. Soon afterward, Corbyn and four Independent Alliance MPs issued an “urgent email” to supporters warning them to cancel their direct debits. They advised members to ignore all communications from Sultana and announced that legal advice was being sought.
This stunning public rebuke revealed an internal power clash. Sultana fired back with her own statement, accusing the male founders of sidelining her and freezing her out of decision-making. “I have been treated appallingly and excluded completely,” she declared. She described the leadership group as a “sexist boys’ club” that left her no choice but to act independently.
Charges of Sexism and Sabotage
Sultana’s sexism accusation landed awkwardly, given that Corbyn’s closest allies in the group include Muslim MPs, making claims of Islamophobia implausible. Nevertheless, she framed the dispute as a struggle against male dominance within the party.
Her critics countered that the chaos was not about gender but about control. They accused Sultana of acting recklessly and misleading supporters, while some members bizarrely claimed that Corbyn himself was plotting to infiltrate his own party as a “right-wing plant.” The spectacle of Corbyn—long branded as the embodiment of leftist politics—being labeled a right-wing saboteur only added to the absurdity.

Revolutionaries Devouring Their Own
Observers watched with disbelief as former allies turned on each other. For many onlookers, the implosion carried an ironic twist: the hard left, which often blames “the right” for every setback, now accused its own founder of betrayal. Social media captured the mood with biting humor. One user joked, “Two Corbynites walk into a pub and fall out over the definition of Corbynism. One of them was Corbyn.”
The episode underscored a recurring pattern within far-left politics. Instead of uniting around shared goals, activists often fracture into rival factions, each accusing the other of impurity or hidden agendas.
Supporters Left Disillusioned
For grassroots members, the rapid collapse was both shocking and familiar. Many who had celebrated Labour’s Corbyn years between 2015 and 2019 hoped Your Party would reignite a sense of purpose. Instead, they saw their dream dissolve in a single day of chaotic emails and public recriminations.
Disillusioned supporters expressed anger and confusion online, with some blaming a “whispers campaign” by unnamed right-wing forces inside the party. Others admitted frustration that the movement they trusted could disintegrate so quickly over personal disputes.
Searching for a New Home
As Your Party falters, attention is shifting to the Green Party under new leader Zack Polanski. Some former Corbyn supporters argue that the Greens now offer the only viable alternative for left-leaning voters seeking a fresh start. The logic is simple: if Your Party exposed its own instability, perhaps the Greens—at least for now—remain untainted by the same infighting.
Lessons From the Collapse
The Your Party turmoil reveals more than just personal rivalries. It highlights the fragility of movements built on ideological zeal but lacking strong internal structure. Ambitious leaders, competing egos, and vague strategies create openings for mistrust and chaos. What began as an attempt to revive a political dream has instead become a cautionary tale of how quickly a movement can self-destruct.
For now, Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana face the wreckage of their own creation. Their supporters are left wondering whether the promise of a new leftist force was ever real—or simply another chapter in the endless cycle of radical politics turning on itself.
