De Kock Ends ODI Retirement

Quinton de Kock, one of South Africa’s most accomplished wicketkeeper-batters, has reversed his decision to retire from One Day Internationals. He will play both the ODI and T20I legs of the Pakistan tour. De Kock had stepped away from ODIs after the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and has not featured for South Africa since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. His return is seen as critical as the Proteas begin planning for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup and the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Regular captain Temba Bavuma will miss the tour while recovering from a left calf strain sustained during the team’s England series. In his absence, South Africa has appointed three different leaders. Aiden Markram will captain the Test side, Matthew Breetzke will lead the ODI squad, and experienced middle-order batter David Miller will take charge of the T20I team. This rotation of leadership signals a new era of flexibility and strategic planning within the squad.

Tour Schedule and Venues

The multi-format series begins with two Test matches. The first will be played in Lahore starting on October 12, followed by the second in Rawalpindi on October 20. After the Tests, the teams will compete in three ODIs and three T20Is. The Proteas will also play a one-off T20I against Namibia before the main white-ball matches against Pakistan, providing a valuable opportunity to test their bench strength.
