Seven Arrested in Karachi Over Sarim’s Murder

Karachi police have arrested seven individuals suspected of involvement in the rape and murder of a seven-year-old boy, Sarim, in North Karachi.

Case Background

Sarim was reported missing on January 7 and was found dead on January 18 in his apartment’s underground water tank. The autopsy confirmed sexual abuse and strangulation as the cause of death.

Police Investigation and Further Developments

An initial forensic report confirmed sexual assault, but police are waiting for final forensic results.

In response to Sarim’s case and the recent disappearances of five-year-old Aliyan and six-year-old Ali Raza from Karachi’s Garden area on January 14, authorities have formed a special investigation team. This team, under the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), is tasked with identifying and arresting those involved in such crimes.

The Karachi police chief has directed the committee chairman to submit a progress report by February 3, 2025.
