10,000 individuals to get jobs at Google

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, saw revenues grow 17 percent to $40 billion in 2020, on sales of $182 billion.

Google unveiled plans to spend more than $7 billion in the United States this year, creating thousands of jobs in the process, in an effort to aid the country’s economic recovery.

Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, confirmed that the move would result in the creation of “at least 10,000 new full-time Google jobs in the United States this year.”

Google is likely to raise $1 billion in California, which is its hometown. Google said it would add thousands of jobs in Atlanta, Washington, DC, Chicago, and New York, in addition to the San Francisco Bay Area.

“As part of our recently stated racial equality goals, this will help deliver more opportunities and investment to minority communities,” Pichai added.

The news comes as antitrust regulators look at Big Tech’s increasing domination in key economic industries, which has grown since the pandemic as more consumers migrate to online services.

Antitrust lawsuits have been brought against Google in the United States and abroad.

The US government accused Google of having an “illegal monopoly” on internet search and advertisement in a landmark case brought in October of last year. In December, a coalition of US states filed a lawsuit against Google, accusing the corporation of exploiting its internet search supremacy to stifle competition.

Google’s numerous offerings “helped provide $426 billion in economic development for more than two million American enterprises, charities, advertisers, artists, and entrepreneurs,” according to its own economic impact study published Thursday.
