ISLAMABAD: Asim Ahmed, on Friday, has been appointed as Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) new chairman as a notification from the Establishment Division mentioned.
The federal government on Friday appointed Asim Ahmed, as he is from the Inland Revenue.
Following the retirement of incumbent chairman Javed Ghani, he was given charge of the tax regulatory authority.
Ghani will reach retirement age on April 12, 2021, but due to weekly vacations, he will be relieved of his duties as Chairman FBR on April 9, 2021.
The FBR chairman is being appointed for the sixth time by the PTI-led administration.
This is a crucial time for the tax collecting system when the country’s success would be scrutinized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“The government has agreed to select a new chairman of the FBR, and various names are under consideration for the position of the sixth chairman under the rule of the PTI-led government,” official sources told The News earlier this week.
When approached, a top government official told the publication that the government has agreed to name the new chairman FBR from within the board’s ranks.
Ghani was a member of the Customs Community, so the new chairman could come from the Inland Revenue Service (IRS), according to reports.
