Pakistan Supports ‘Loss-Damage Fund’ at COP27

COP27 conference decided that all countries will set up a loss and damage fund to help the countries struggling with climate problems

World leaders gathered in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt to discuss the affects of climate change on the world.

The conference was crucial in deciding the measures that will help the countries struggling with the affects of climate change.

European Union proposed that all countries should develop a ‘loss and damage fund’ to help the developing countries in fighting against the climate crisis.

Many countries including Pakistan suffered drastic affects of climate change in the form of devastating floods that caused a huge loss.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif hailed this decision and tweeted, “The establishment of loss & damage fund at the UN climate summit is the first pivotal step towards the goal of climate justice. It is up to the transitional committee to build on the historic development. I appreciate @sherryrehman & her team for their contribution & hard work.”

Premier also attended the COP27 and asked the international community to support Pakistan during the times of climate crisis.

Sherry Rehman also took to twitter to support this decision by COP27. She tweeted, “now that the fund has been established, we look forward to it being operationalised, to actually become a robust body that is able to answer with agility to the needs of the vulnerable, the fragile and those on the frontline of climate disasters”.
