Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif picked Lieutenant Asim Muneer as the 17th Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan

The news of appointment of new army chief was doing rounds for a long time, since General Qamar Bajwa announced the ending of his tenure.

Pakistan’s prime minister has picked the next army chief who will be the 17th Army chief of Pakistan after General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Shahbaz Sharif has picked Lieutenant Asim Muneer as the next Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Information minister Maryam Aurangzeb announced this news through her twitter handle, stating that prime minister has made his decision for the new COAS.

She tweeted that, “Prime Minister of Pakistan through his constitutional right chose Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshed as Chairman of Joint chief of Staff committee, and Lieutenant General Asim Muneer as Chief of army staff. The summary is forward to President of Pakistan.”

Furthermore, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif mentioned that Premier Shahbaz made this decision based on law and constitution.

He further asked the nation to not look at the decision through political lens, rather it is a constitutional decision.
