Local body elections are happening after a long delay in 16 districts of Karachi and Hyderabad. This is the second phase of elections.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pak Sar Zameen Party (PSP), and the Sindh government all tried to postpone the local body elections. The Sindh government pleaded several times to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to postpone the elections because there are not enough civil police and rangers to cater to the security of the polling stations and citizens.

However, the ECP denied their request twice and announced that the elections will continue and be held on the scheduled date.

MQM and PSP have boycotted the elections.

A total of 17,862 candidates are competing against each other out of which 9,057 are from Karachi, 6,228 from Hyderabad and 2,577 from Thatta division.

There are more than 4 million voters in Karachi that have set out to cast their vote in favour of the party they support.
