Former Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa departed for Istanbul on Friday, a day after his official retirement. He was accompanied by his wife and left from Islamabad airport on a Turkish Airlines flight, according to airport officials. Justice Isa utilized the regular international lounge before boarding, with assigned protocol staff present to assist.
Justice Isa concluded his term on the Supreme Court on Thursday, stepping down from the country’s highest judicial post. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Pakistan’s judiciary.
Justice Yahya Afridi Sworn In as New Chief Justice
On the day following Justice Isa’s retirement, Justice Yahya Afridi was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Pakistan. The ceremony took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr, with President Asif Ali Zardari administering the oath. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, heads of the armed forces, and other prominent figures attended the event.
Supreme Court Justices Ayesha Malik and Athar Minallah were also present. Justice Afridi’s appointment follows the approval of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which allowed a special parliamentary committee to nominate him for the chief justice position.
