The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has hiked electricity rates for Karachi by Rs3.03 per unit. This increase, announced as part of the monthly fuel price adjustment for July 2024, will impact consumers in Karachi under K-Electric. K-Electric initially sought a rate hike of Rs3.09 per unit, citing increased fuel costs. NEPRA reviewed the proposal and approved a revised increase of Rs3.03 per unit.

The recent adjustment was meant to bring consumers some relief with reduced bills in October. However, the relief does not extend to K-Electric customers or certain categories of users. Lifeline consumers, prepaid users, and electric vehicle charging stations are exempt from this increase.

Adjustment Reflected in December Bills
Customers in Karachi will see the new charges reflected in their December 2024 bills. This latest hike follows a recent announcement by NEPRA, which decreased electricity rates by Rs0.86 per unit in the fuel price adjustment for August. The new adjustments reflect the ongoing changes in global fuel costs and their impact on local electricity pricing.
