Karachi: The Sindh cabinet has undergone a major reshuffle as Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah made changes to several portfolios and announced new appointments. Three advisors and ten special assistants have been added to the provincial government team.

The Sindh government issued a notification late Friday, detailing the reshuffle. Mukesh Chawla has been appointed Minister for Excise, Taxation & Narcotics Control. He takes over from Sharjeel Inam Memon, who retains his roles as Minister of Information and Transport and Mass Transit.

Mohammad Ali Malkani, previously handling Boards and Universities, is now the Minister for Fisheries and Livestock. He also retains the Katchi Abadis portfolio.

Saeed Ghani will continue as Minister for Local Government and Housing Town Planning, while Jam Khan Shoro retains the Irrigation portfolio.

Ten special assistants have been given key roles. Saleem Baloch will oversee Public Health Engineering & Rural Development, while Abdul Jabbar Khan has been assigned the Food portfolio. Lal Chand Ukrani will manage Minority Affairs.

Usman Hingoro takes over the Bureau of Supply and Prices from Mohammad Bux Mahar, who continues with Agriculture, Sports, and Anti-Corruption portfolios.

Other Key Assignments

Waqar Mehdi, PPP’s provincial general secretary, has been appointed to lead the Chief Minister’s Inspections, Enquiries, and Implementation Team (CMIE&IT). Rajvir Singh will focus on Human Rights, Mansoor Shahani on Student Affairs, and Junaid Buland on the Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA).

Dost Ali Rahimoon, previously a minister for Environment, Climate Change, and Coastal Development, has been reassigned as an advisor with the same portfolio.

Implications of the Reshuffle

The cabinet changes aim to strengthen governance and address pressing provincial issues. Analysts believe the reshuffle reflects efforts to bring experienced individuals into critical roles.

The expanded cabinet now includes diverse portfolios, ensuring better focus on public services, infrastructure, and environmental protection. These changes come amid growing challenges in Sindh, including urban development, inflation, and climate-related issues.
