Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused the United States and Israel of orchestrating the ousting of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. In a speech delivered in Tehran, he referred to the situation as part of a larger “US-Israel conspiracy” aimed at destabilizing the region. Khamenei also pointed fingers at an unnamed neighboring country for playing a supporting role in the events.

US-Israel Accused of Orchestrating the Plot

Khamenei labeled al-Assad’s fall as a “joint American-Zionist plot,” emphasizing that it was strategically designed to undermine Syria’s stability and its role within the “axis of resistance” against Western powers. He stated, “There should be no doubt that what happened in Syria was orchestrated by America and Israel.”

The Supreme Leader underscored that this plot was not spontaneous but a well-coordinated attempt to weaken resistance movements in the region, a key pillar of Iran’s foreign policy. He rejected claims that the axis of resistance had weakened, reiterating Iran’s commitment to its regional alliances.

Neighbor’s Role Sparks Speculation

While focusing on the US and Israel, Khamenei also criticized an unnamed neighboring country, accusing it of playing a “clear role” in the events surrounding al-Assad’s fall. He stated that this neighbor “continues to be involved” in the situation.

Iranian Intelligence Warned Syria

Khamenei revealed that Iranian intelligence had warned the Syrian government of potential threats over the past three months. He criticized Damascus for “neglecting the enemy” and not taking adequate measures to prevent instability. According to him, these warnings highlighted an imminent attempt to destabilize Syria’s leadership.

Regional Implications

Khamenei’s remarks suggest that Iran views the event as a broader challenge to its influence in the Middle East.

His accusations against the US, Israel, and a neighboring state also underline rising tensions in the region. Turkiye’s involvement in supporting opposition groups could further strain its already complex relationship with Iran. Meanwhile, Israel’s ongoing military operations in Syria continue to deepen the regional divide.

Iran’s Resilience in the Face of Challenges

Despite these developments, Khamenei maintained that Iran’s position remains firm. He reiterated that the “axis of resistance” is intact and resilient, signaling Iran’s determination to uphold its influence in the region.

The Supreme Leader’s comments reflect Tehran’s perspective on the evolving Middle Eastern dynamics and highlight its mistrust of Western and regional actors. As Syria navigates its future without al-Assad, the broader geopolitical ramifications are likely to unfold in the months ahead.
