The Humraz Male Health Society (HMHS) conducted a thought-provoking HIV Awareness Session at SZABIST University, Larkana, engaging final-year students in a critical dialogue about HIV prevention, stigma reduction, and the importance of timely treatment. This initiative underscores HMHS’s commitment to fostering awareness and combating the spread of HIV in Sindh.

Promoting Awareness and Breaking Stigma

The session, held on Tuesday, targeted BBA-8 students and focused on educating youth about HIV, its transmission modes, and the harmful effects of stigma on affected individuals. Students were encouraged to become advocates for awareness and drive meaningful change in their communities.

Dr. Jalil Ahmed Thebo, Assistant Professor at SZABIST, emphasized the importance of such initiatives, saying, “Educating youth about sensitive health issues like HIV is vital for building an informed and empathetic society. These programs empower students to combat misinformation and foster a more inclusive environment.”

A Collaborative Effort

This session is part of HMHS’s broader mission to address HIV across Sindh, including cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and Nawabshah. Supported by the Global Fund to Fight HIV, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, as well as UNDP Pakistan, the initiative aligns with the efforts of the Sindh Communal Diseases Control (CDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health.

The collaboration between HMHS and SZABIST University highlights the role of academic institutions in addressing public health challenges. The students’ active participation reflected their enthusiasm to learn and contribute to eradicating misconceptions about HIV.

Youth as Change Agents

Hameer Shaikh, Monitoring and Evaluation lead at HMHS, stressed the need for youth involvement. “HIV remains a critical issue in our communities, and addressing it demands collective action. Engaging young minds is essential as they represent the future of change. Together, we can break barriers, spread accurate information, and ensure treatment access for those in need,” he stated.

Through interactive discussions, HMHS empowered students with the knowledge to become ambassadors for change. The session not only provided information but also aimed to instill a sense of responsibility among the participants.

Commitment to a Healthier Future

The success of the event reflects HMHS’s dedication to creating resilient communities that can effectively address HIV and related challenges. By promoting open conversations, the organization continues to work toward reducing stigma and ensuring access to essential healthcare services.

Humraz Male Health Society extended its gratitude to SZABIST University for its cooperation. The session marked a significant step toward a healthier, stigma-free tomorrow, where collective efforts can make a tangible difference in public health outcomes.

Such initiatives reaffirm the importance of collaboration between health organizations and educational institutions in addressing pressing societal issues.
