Karachi: Police found the body of seven-year-old Sarim in an underground water tank near his home in North Karachi after he went missing 11 days ago. They are investigating whether he fell accidentally or someone pushed him.
They stated that a carton covered the water tank’s lid. Police recovered the boy’s body and shifted it to a hospital. Doctors will determine the cause of death after conducting a postmortem.
Missing Report Filed on January 7
Sarim’s family reported him missing on January 7 after he failed to return from a nearby madrasa. The family suspected abduction and filed a complaint with the police.
Extensive Search Operations
Authorities conducted a large-scale search in the apartment complex. They inspected all 212 flats and checked the building’s four water tanks. Despite their efforts, the boy was not found until 11 days later.
CCTV and Power Outage Hindered Investigation
A power outage during the incident hampered the investigation. CCTV cameras in the building were non-functional at the time. Police tried to gather footage from nearby areas to trace the boy’s movements.
Suspicious Calls to the Father
Sarim’s father received suspicious calls and messages from unknown numbers. One caller asked for the boy’s photo, which he sent. However, the number was switched off afterward.
Another message demanded Rs. 5 lakh in ransom. Police transferred the case to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) to investigate further.

Mother’s Emotional Plea
Sarim’s mother, speaking to ARY News, pleaded for her son’s return. She shared that both her sons had gone to the madrasa together, but only the elder one returned.
The family expressed frustration over the non-functional CCTV cameras. They hoped for swift action from the authorities to uncover the truth behind their son’s death.
Ongoing Investigation
Police are now focusing on whether Sarim accidentally fell into the water tank or if someone deliberately pushed him. They are analyzing evidence and questioning neighbors to uncover the truth.
