KARACHI: Residents of Lines Area attacked K-Electric (KE) staff during an operation to disconnect illegal power connections, according to a KE press release.
The attack occurred in Abysinia Lines (Lines Area) as KE teams worked to remove illegal electricity connections (kunda). Injured staff members were immediately taken to a nearby private hospital for medical treatment.
KE strongly condemned the violence, calling it the second such incident in the area within days. Previously, locals targeted KE teams during a similar disconnection operation.
Outstanding Dues and Anti-Theft Efforts
KE stated that electricity theft has led to outstanding dues of over PKR 270 million in the Lines Area. Despite these challenges, KE vowed to continue its anti-theft operations.

FIRs have been registered against the attackers. KE emphasized that strict legal action is being pursued to address such incidents and ensure the safety of its employees.
Similar Incident in Lyari
Earlier, KE teams and ARY News staff faced violence in Lyari’s Cheel Chowk area during an anti-theft drive. Miscreants attacked and intimidated the teams with firearms, forcing them to evacuate for safety.
KE revealed that Cheel Chowk has over Rs20 billion in outstanding dues. More than 850 anti-theft operations have already been conducted in Lyari to curb illegal practices.

KE reiterated its determination to combat electricity theft across Karachi. The spokesperson condemned the violent disruptions and assured that operations would continue until illegal activities are eliminated.
The utility company has urged residents to cooperate with its efforts to improve electricity services and ensure a safer environment for all.
