Trump Presses for Gaza Ceasefire Ahead of Netanyahu Visit

US President Donald Trump has urged Hamas to accept a proposed Gaza ceasefire deal, stating that Israel has already agreed to its terms. His call came ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington next week. The 60-day ceasefire aims to halt nearly 21 months of relentless bombing in Gaza, which has created a humanitarian catastrophe for over two million Palestinians.
Ceasefire Conditions and Warnings
Trump announced on social media that his team met Israeli officials and confirmed Israel’s agreement to the ceasefire. He emphasized that Qatar and Egypt would deliver the final proposal. “This is the best deal Hamas will get. Rejecting it will only worsen conditions,” Trump warned.
Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar echoed support for the ceasefire, noting strong backing from the government and public to free hostages held in Gaza.

Escalation Despite Peace Push
Despite diplomatic efforts, Israeli strikes continue across Gaza. At least 14 Palestinians were killed on Tuesday, including five family members in Al-Mawasi and nine others in Gaza City and Deir el-Balah. Al-Mawasi, once designated a safe zone, has faced repeated attacks.
Israeli tanks have massed near Gaza’s southern border. Footage from AFP showed destroyed tents, injured children, and families mourning over loved ones in overwhelmed hospitals. Israel claims its operations target Hamas infrastructure while attempting to minimize civilian harm.
Civilian Suffering Mounts
Residents described intensified shelling in Gaza City. “Every time a ceasefire is discussed, attacks increase,” said Raafat Halles from Shujaiya. Over 56,600 Palestinians have died since Israel’s military response to the Hamas-led October 7 attack, which killed 1,219 Israelis. Thousands remain trapped under rubble, and basic infrastructure—including hospitals—lies in ruins.
Diplomatic Moves and Responses
Trump plans to meet Netanyahu on July 7 to discuss the ceasefire and remaining hostages. Hamas indicated conditional willingness to accept any deal that ensures a full ceasefire and Israeli troop withdrawal. Yet, despite growing international pressure, a resolution remains uncertain.
