Pakistan has officially taken over the UNSC Presidency for July 2025, committing to promote timely and united global action in line with the UN Charter. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized Pakistan’s focus on multilateralism, diplomacy, and balanced dialogue in addressing international peace and security.

A Vision Anchored in Diplomacy

Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said Pakistan undertakes this responsibility with humility, purpose, and conviction. He noted Pakistan’s long-standing role in UN peacekeeping and peace-building efforts. “Our approach will reflect respect for international law and a principled foreign policy,” he stated.

Pakistan’s voice at the Security Council will be shaped by its consistent advocacy for dialogue and diplomacy. It aims to act as a bridge between UNSC members and the wider UN community to foster cooperation.

Focused Agenda for July

During its Presidency, Pakistan will host two high-level signature events.

Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar will preside over the quarterly open debate on Palestine on July 23. These events reflect Pakistan’s commitment to inclusive engagement and action-oriented discussions.

Addressing Global Crises

Shafqat Ali Khan stressed the urgency of addressing interlinked global crises across regions like the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, and Latin America. He called for a responsive and credible Security Council that acknowledges the growing human cost of conflicts.

Kashmir Remains a Priority

Highlighting human rights in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), the spokesperson renewed Pakistan’s call for the release of Kashmiri political prisoners. He specifically urged India to release veteran leader Shabbir Ahmed Shah, who has spent over half his life in jail and now suffers from deteriorating health.

Pakistan’s UNSC Presidency will seek to reflect both regional priorities and the broader quest for global peace.
