The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has firmly rejected rumors suggesting the possible removal of President Zardari. PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari on Tuesday made it clear that the federal government cannot function without the party’s support.

PPP Denies Exit from Presidency

Speaking to reporters, Bukhari dismissed recent reports claiming that President Asif Ali Zardari might be ousted from office. He stated, “The government cannot function without the PPP’s support. These speculations are baseless and show a lack of understanding of the Constitution.”

The rumors emerged after the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) gained a simple majority in the National Assembly. This development followed the Election Commission’s reinstatement of reserved seats, raising the ruling alliance’s strength to 235 members and granting it a two-thirds majority.

No Plans to Join Cabinet

Bukhari also clarified that the PPP would not be joining the federal cabinet, despite remaining a key ally in the ruling coalition. “Being part of the government does not mean agreeing on everything,” he said.

His comments echoed those of PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui, who earlier denied that any proposal to replace President Zardari was being considered. “No such suggestion exists at any level,” Siddiqui told a local news channel. He praised Zardari for fulfilling his constitutional duties as head of state.

Reactions from Government and Allies

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had also rejected the removal rumors during a visit to Sindh.

The PPP’s stance reinforces its importance in the coalition government while shutting down speculation about any leadership shake-up. The party continues to emphasize its independent political identity and its role in maintaining political balance within the current setup
