The family of late actor and model Humaira Asghar has denied media claims that they refused to accept her body. Her brother, Naveed Asghar, clarified that legal procedures delayed the handover—not family neglect. He arrived in Karachi to receive her remains, which were discovered earlier this week in her DHA apartment.

Tragic Discovery and Police Investigation

Police found Humaira’s body in an advanced state of decomposition while enforcing a court-ordered eviction. Officers suggested she may have died around September 2024, citing expired food and inactive phone records. The autopsy confirmed the body was at least eight months old.

Authorities initially reported that her family had refused to claim the body, sparking outrage across the entertainment industry. However, Naveed later arrived to take her home to Lahore for burial.

Brother Speaks Out

Speaking to reporters, Naveed said the body remained in police custody for investigation. He explained that the family had been in contact with both police and rescue service Chhipa for three days prior to the handover.

“Our family was never informed earlier. When the police finally contacted us, we followed procedure,” he said. He added that his parents were already grieving a recent family loss and were too distressed to travel immediately.

Humaira’s Private Life

Naveed described his sister as independent and distant. She had lived alone in Karachi for seven years and rarely visited home. “She wouldn’t stay in touch for months. Her phone was off for six months, and we had no way to contact her,” he said.

Support From Industry and Government

Following media reports, the Sindh culture department and several celebrities offered to handle her burial.
