Heavy Rain Wreaks Havoc
The rainfall, which began at 5:00am and lasted until 11:30am, caused major disruption across the city. Nishtar Town recorded 182mm of rain—the highest in Lahore. Low-lying areas such as Shah Jamal, Dharampura, Choburji, and surrounding neighborhoods saw rainwater entering homes.
Several vehicles, especially those in underpasses, were submerged. In a tragic incident, a young boy was electrocuted while playing in a flooded plot near Lari Adda.
Ongoing Monsoon Alert
The Meteorological Department forecasts continued monsoon activity until July 13. Rescue operations and drainage efforts are ongoing. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported on Saturday that the death toll from monsoon-related incidents nationwide has reached 104.
As frustrations mount over civic issues and the use of social media for protest, the viral video arrest reflects broader tensions between citizens and the provincial government amid ongoing urban flooding.
