Dar, Wang Yi Discuss c, Regional Peace at SCO Summit

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Tianjin on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting. Their talks focused on advancing Pakistan-China cooperation through strengthened bilateral ties, regional stability, and multilateral diplomacy.

Warm Reception and Strategic Dialogue

Dar opened the meeting by congratulating his Chinese counterpart on successfully hosting the SCO summit. He also thanked the Chinese government for its warm hospitality extended to Pakistan’s delegation. The conversation between the two foreign ministers emphasized shared priorities, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and increased engagement on global and regional platforms.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between Pakistan and China. They expressed satisfaction over continued coordination in political, economic, and security sectors.

Focus on CPEC and Regional Development

The discussion highlighted CPEC’s pivotal role in regional connectivity and economic growth. Dar and Wang Yi underscored the project’s significance for both nations and committed to accelerating its development. They also pledged to work closely on infrastructure, energy, and investment initiatives under CPEC’s framework.

Dar described China’s leadership as instrumental in the success of multilateral forums like SCO. He welcomed Belarus as the newest full member of the bloc and noted that platforms like SCO offer stability amid rising global tensions.

The foreign ministers emphasized the need for peaceful dispute resolution and closer diplomatic coordination. Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and regional peace. Wang Yi echoed these views, appreciating Pakistan’s active engagement in regional forums.

Dar praised the SCO for fostering unity and regional dialogue. He said that amid global geopolitical uncertainty, such platforms provide much-needed balance and consensus. He also expressed appreciation for China’s leadership in promoting shared regional goals.

Dar’s Public Message and Future Engagement

After the meeting, Dar posted on social media to thank the Chinese government and Pakistan’s Foreign Office and Embassy in Beijing. He called his two-day visit “meaningful” and “successful,” crediting strong teamwork for smooth diplomatic exchanges.

In his words: “I extend my sincere gratitude to the Government of China for their gracious hospitality and impeccable arrangements. It was a pleasure to engage in meaningful discussions with my counterparts on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.”

Dar also shared highlights of his address to the SCO forum. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for peaceful coexistence, regional stability, and deeper economic integration among member states. He urged regional coordination to maximise economic potential and counter emerging security threats.

Upcoming Diplomatic Push

As diplomatic efforts gain momentum, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit China in August. He will be joined by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The visit is expected to advance strategic dialogues on bilateral cooperation and address evolving regional issues, including the May conflict with India.

The upcoming visit will build on Dar’s recent interactions and provide continuity in high-level engagement between the two countries.

Strengthening Diplomatic Channels

The Dar-Wang meeting marks another chapter in the evolving partnership between Pakistan and China. As the region faces shifting alliances and security concerns, Islamabad and Beijing appear committed to strengthening diplomatic, economic, and defence cooperation.

Observers believe that Pakistan’s active role in SCO and its close ties with China reflect a broader strategy to maintain regional balance. As both countries look ahead, their focus remains on building sustainable peace, economic resilience, and multilateral alignment.
